All eyes have turned to the lens with Queensland Rail launching a competition for budding photographers to have their images immortalised on South East Queensland train stations.
Queensland Rail CEO Kat Stapleton said the competition, which opens today, Monday June 10, called for entrants to frame their local suburb.
"We are thrilled to invite photographers of all skill levels to participate in this exciting competition," Ms Stapleton said.
“Whether capturing the hustle and bustle of daily commutes, the serenity of stations at dawn, or simply the kaleidoscope of the community, we want you to unleash your imaginations at Lindum, Morningside, Buranda, Burpengary, Bundamba and Banyo.
“This competition not only celebrates the artistic talent within our community but also fosters a deeper connection between public transport and the people we serve. It also promises an opportunity for artists to leave an indelible mark on the cityscape."
Ms Stapleton said six lucky winners will have the honour of seeing their images transformed into larger-than-life displays on the exteriors of the train stations, which are currently undergoing life-changing accessibility upgrades.
“The station accessibility upgrades at Lindum, Morningside, Buranda, Burpengary, Bundamba and Banyo will make catching the train easier for all members of our community, so it's right that the community have a chance to be a part of the transformation," she said.
“The winning images will be mounted on stunning urban canvases, to localise and celebrate the aspects of the community that make it unique."
Ms Stapleton said a similar competition was held at East Ipswich station as part of its upgrade in 2021.
“We've seen how stunning these artworks can make a train station, just like at East Ipswich where 'Early Morning Walk' graces Merton Street, and we look forward to seeing what this next group of entrants produces."
Budding photographers can submit a black and white monochrome photo for the panel to consider with submissions now open and accepted until Sunday, 23 June 2024.
The entries will be judged by a panel. Visit the Queensland Rail website for guidelines, submission details, and further information.
