More adventurers are choosing to head to the outback by rail, and there's never been a better time to travel with the return of two for the price of one train tickets on Queensland Rail's western lines.
Queensland Rail Head of Regional Scott Cornish said the deal allows customers to head west for less onboard the Spirit of the Outback, Westlander and Inlander trains.
“It's the perfect opportunity to travel to popular outback locations from the comfort of an air-conditioned train carriage. There's nothing like a rail journey which allows you to sit back, relax and take in some of Queensland's most beautiful landscapes, and now you can do it for half the price," Mr Cornish said.
“In 2023-24, we welcomed almost 26,000 people onboard our western services, up from almost 22,000 in 2022-23, and we're determined to see that number continue to rise this year.
“Since 2015, we've been promoting tourism in western Queensland through our '2 for 1' Outback Rail sale during the summer months, enticing people to get out and explore our outback towns during the off-peak season.
“We are committed to connecting Queenslanders and hope these discounted fares increase the number of people travelling by rail to Longreach, Charleville, Mount Isa and all stops in between."
Mr Cornish said all three outback services depart twice weekly with fares for two one-way economy seats starting from as little as $65. Even solo travellers get 50 per cent off the full price fare.
“Tickets are valid for travel from 1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025 on the Westlander, Spirit of the Outback and Inlander", he said.
The fares are bookable via the Queensland Rail Travel reservations team, at Queensland Rail Travel Centres and through travel agents.
