Queensland Rail has undertaken remediation works on the North Johnstone River rail bridge on the North Coast line, approximately one kilometre south of Daradgee.
These works were necessary to provide safe, timely and adequate rail services between Townsville and Cairns.
Project update
Stage 1 works commenced in mid-September 2015 and included surveying the rail corridor, undertaking civil improvements to existing access roads around the bridge on the northern and southern sides of the North Johnstone River, and engineering investigations on the structure. Scaffolding was erected on the bridge to provide safe access during investigations and throughout works.
Queensland Rail worked closely with Cassowary Coast Regional Council, adjacent residents and land owners to understand project impacts and minimise disruption during works.
The current program of bridge remediation works were completed in September 2017.
