Queensland Rail is pleased to announce that Lindum station will reopen to customers and services in time for Christmas, on Monday 23 December.

While trains will be stopping at the stations from Monday, construction on additional upgrade features and finishing touches will continue into early next year.

The Shuttle bus 229 will cease operation after the last service on Sunday 22 December.

Station accessibility upgrade program features

Queensland Rail's Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, opens in new window will make it easier for customers to travel on our network whether you're pushing a pram, carrying luggage, using a wheelchair or injured, you'll be able to use the station with ease.

Key features of the upgrade upon complete include:

  • a new footbridge with lift access
  • improved accessible parking
  • full length high-level platforms
  • upgraded hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators
  • upgraded security cameras and lighting
  • new wayfinding and platform signage
  • new station office and facilities.

Lindum station access and ongoing works

From Monday 23 December, Lindum station will be accessible for all customers via a new footbridge with lift and stair access to both fully raised platforms.

While we’re finalising the additional upgrade features there will be some changes within the Lindum station precinct. The existing construction site office area (within the Sibley Road park ‘n’ ride) will remain in place until all upgrade features are complete.

Sibley Road impacts

Ongoing works will continue in the Sibley Road park ‘n’ ride, which will remain partially closed to the public. While we work towards completion of the permanent kiss ‘n’ ride drop off area, a temporary kiss ‘n’ ride will be available opposite the main station entrance off Sibley Road.

Limited parking will be available in the Sibley Road park ‘n’ ride when the station reopens. There will be approximately 50 carparks available to customers, plus three accessible parking bays and some dedicated parks for station staff. We will inform the community as more parking becomes available.

North Road impacts

Due to safety, the North Road park ‘n’ ride will remain fully closed until carpark upgrade works are completed next year.

There will be a temporary accessible ramp to platform 1 from the North Road level crossing, until the northern carpark is suitable for access.

Alternative transport

  • The current shuttle bus 229 service will continue to run between Lindum and Wynnum North stations until the last service on Sunday 22 December.

  • The shuttle operates every 10-15 minutes in peak hours (7am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm on weekdays), with additional services running to support school start and finish times.

  • Outside of peak hours, route 229 will connect with arriving trains at Wynnum North station.

  • All route 229 services are accessible.

Ongoing works

From 23 December until the completion of the accessibility upgrade, the following activities are expected at the station:

  • Lifts and stairs on North Road side of the station

  • Carpark works in the North Road side of the station and within the Sibley Road park 'n' ride - includes permanent kiss 'n' ride

  • Secure bike storage - build and fit out the bicycle storage facility on North Road side of the station

  • Station landscaping - includes works at the station entries.

Works will generally take place 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, unless notified.

Customers and the local community are advised to be aware of these changes and plan their station access accordingly.

Construction impacts

Every effort will be made to carry out these works with respect for our neighbours and customers.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding as we build a better station.

  • Noise – expect machinery and construction noise during the work period

  • Lighting – bright lights will be used during night works, which may cause some light pollution

  • Safety measures – for your safety, please use approved paths, follow directional signage.

Lindum Station Precinct Study

Queensland Rail's accessibility upgrade is an important part of improvements planned for the Lindum station precinct at Wynnum West.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) recently completed its Lindum Station Precinct Study, with community consultation helping project teams to better understand current and future challenges, and transport opportunities in the area.

As part of this study, DTMR is currently investigating options to upgrade the Lindum station park 'n' ride. Work to improve the Lindum station precinct is now progressing as a result of the study, with planning for immediate safety improvements, short-term upgrades and longer-term solutions underway.

Queensland Rail continues to work closely with Brisbane City Council and all levels of government to plan and deliver these works.

For more information about the Lindum Station Precinct Study or park 'n' ride works, visit the DTMR website, opens in new window, contact DTMR on 13 23 80 or email lindumstudy@tmr.qld.gov.au.
