Morningside station reopened to customers on 31 December 2024.

While trains are now stopping at the station, construction on additional upgrade features and finishing touches are continuing into early 2025.

Station Accessibility Upgrade program features

Queensland Rail's Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, opens in new window will make it easier for customers to travel on our network whether you're pushing a pram, carrying luggage, using a wheelchair or injured, you'll be able to use the station with ease.

When complete, key features of the upgrade include:

  • a new footbridge with lift access

  • improved accessible parking

  • full length high-level platforms

  • upgraded hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators

  • upgraded security cameras and lighting

  • new wayfinding and platform signage

  • upgraded station office and facilities.

Morningside station access and ongoing works

Morningside station is accessible for all customers from Waminda Street via a new footbridge with lift and stair access to both fully raised platforms.

The stairs from Wynnum Road are now complete and will reopen to customers on Tuesday 28 January 2025. Cross corridor access will be available via the new station footbridge. The old footbridge will be closed from 28 January and will be removed in the coming weeks.

Lift access to and from Wynnum Road will be completed in the coming weeks. To access the platforms from Wynnum Road in the meantime, please use the new stair access and connect to the platforms via the new footbridge with lift or stair access to platforms 1 and 2, and across the rail corridor to Waminda Street.

Alternatively, please follow the detour outlined in the detour map via Jack Flynn Memorial Drive. Catching urban bus services may be a better option for you.

Please visit our Accessibility page, opens in new window for more information to assist you with your journey.

While we're finalising the additional upgrade features there will be some changes within the Morningside station precinct. The existing construction site office area (within the Waminda Street park 'n' ride) will remain in place until all upgrade features are complete.

Waminda Street impacts

Ongoing works will continue in the Waminda Street park 'n' ride, which will remain partially closed to the public. We are working towards completing the kiss 'n' ride drop off area, accessible parking bays, some dedicated parks for station staff, and motorcycle parking.

By the time the station is finished, Morningside will have more than 170 carparks, which includes four accessible bays and nine spaces for motorcycle parking. There will be more than 50 carparks available at Morningside on reopening day. We will inform the community as more parking becomes available.

Wynnum Road impacts

From Tuesday 28 January, you can access the station from Wynnum Road via the new stairs and footbridge.

The old footbridge and stairs will be closed on 28 January and will be removed in the coming weeks.

Alternative transport

  • The shuttle bus 237 service ceased operating between Morningside and Cannon Hill stations after the last service on Sunday 22 December.

  • School shuttle bus 848 ceased operating on 13 December being the final day of school term.

Cannon Hill express service changes

  • The AM and PM peak express services which stopped at Cannon Hill station throughout 2024 will no longer stop at Cannon Hill station. This was a temporary change to the train schedule during the closure of Morningside station for upgrade works.

  • Morningside station will resume AM and PM peak express services from Tuesday 31 December.
