Morningside station reopened to customers on 31 December 2024.

While trains are now stopping at the station, construction on additional upgrade features and finishing touches are continuing into early 2025.

Station Accessibility Upgrade program features

Queensland Rail's Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, opens in new window will make it easier for customers to travel on our network whether you're pushing a pram, carrying luggage, using a wheelchair or injured, you'll be able to use the station with ease.

When complete, key features of the upgrade include:

  • a new footbridge with lift access

  • improved accessible parking

  • full length high-level platforms

  • upgraded hearing augmentation loops and tactile ground surface indicators

  • upgraded security cameras and lighting

  • new wayfinding and platform signage

  • upgraded station office and facilities.

Morningside station access and ongoing works

Morningside station is accessible for all customers via a new footbridge with lift and stair access to both fully raised platforms.

The lift to Wynnum Road is now operational and available to customers who access the station via Wynnum Road.

The old footbridge was removed on 22 February and cross corridor access remains available via the station's new accessible footbridge.

While we're finalising the additional upgrade features there will be some changes within the Morningside station precinct. The existing construction site office area (within the Waminda Street park 'n' ride) will remain in place until all upgrade features are complete.

Waminda Street carpark

An upgraded area within the park 'n' ride will reopen to customers on Friday 28 March 2025. This area includes a new kiss 'n' ride area for safe drop off and pick-ups, as well as three accessible bays and nine spaces for motorcycle parking.

With this new area open, we will temporarily close the southern end of the station to facilitate lighting and security upgrades.

The southern end of the station carpark will be closed from Friday 28 March and reopen on Monday 14 April.

By the time the station is finished, Morningside will have more than 170 carparks, which includes four accessible bays and nine spaces for motorcycle parking. We will inform the community as more parking becomes available.

Ongoing works

Until the completion of the accessibility upgrade, the following activities are expected at the station:

  • Carpark area works – off Waminda Street

  • Secure bike storage – build and fit out of bike storage facility on Wynnum Road side

  • Station landscaping – includes works at the station entries

Works will generally take place 6am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, unless notified.

Customers and the local community are advised to be aware of these changes and plan their station access accordingly.

Impacts

Every effort will be made to carry out these works with respect for our neighbours and customers.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding as we build a better station.

  • Noise – expect machinery and construction noise during the work period

  • Lighting – bright lights will be used during night works, which may cause some light pollution

  • Safety measures – for your safety, please use approved paths, follow directional signage.
